And they Want to remove GA form the VOTING RIGHTS ACT?

File this under the "I told you so", and " are you ignoring the facts" section.

I'm once again surprised at how ignorant Republicans like Karen Handel and Sonny Perdue are for wanting Georgia removing from Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, specially after reading this:

On segregated high school proms

In the Sunday’s New York Times Magazine is piece on the segregated high school proms in Montgomery County, down in southeast Georgia.

It ends with this painful paragraph:

In the meantime, a girl named Angel checked her cellphone to see if any of the white kids had texted from inside their prom. They hadn’t. Angel shrugged. “I really don’t understand,” she said. “Because I’m thinking that these people love me and I love them, but I don’t know. Tonight’s a different story.”

A. This is the first time you've heard of the segregated proms? You've lived a sheltered life. It's self-segregation by the way. Which leads to...

B. Since the government doesn't have any say in this practice and said practice has exactly zero to do with ballot access, exactly what in the name of all that's holy does this have to do with the Voting Rights Act?

Surely you aren't arguing that individual views on race are evidence for continued VRA enforcement. Does this mean racism has been eradicated in the 28 non-monitored state?

What on earth do segregated proms have to do with the conduction of elections by election officials - nothing?

Can you name any instances where blacks have recently been disenfranchised from their right to vote?

When the voting rights act was renew, there was no effort whatsoever to investigate whether or not there was cause to continue them.

Either they should apply nationwide or not at all.
