State Department to afford gay couples benefits

Hillary Clinton is poised to announce that the State Department will begin affording benefits to same-sex couples working for the department. While it doesn't afford marriage protections, the new provisions seem to give sweeping benefits to couples with domestic partnerships that they could not enjoy before. Some of the new benefits include:

Health insurance for partners
Diplomatic passports
Paid travel
Access to U.S. facilities

As far as I know, this is the first time that these benefits have been afforded same-sex couples on the federal level. Previously benefits were denied under the Defense of Marriage Act, however it seems that we've worked through a loophole by expanding domestic partnership coverage.

Rock, rock on.
