What happens in Vegas... Better not Happen with US Tax Dollars

Obama is refusing to meet with the Governor of Nevada regarding comments that he made some time back regarding the bailout:

Carson City - The Office of Governor Jim Gibbons was notified today that President Barack Obama has refused to meet with the Governor and key business leaders from Nevada. Governor Gibbons requested the meeting in a letter to President Obama so the President could address statements he made that were critical to Nevada and have caused economic damage to convention business and tourism business in the Silver State. Earlier this year, the President told an audience in Elkhart, Indiana, "You can't get corporate jets. You can't go take a trip to Las Vegas or go down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayer's dime."

Apparently, this really made the business leaders and Governor of Nevada angry. They requested a formal meeting, but it was turned down by the president. The Governor responded by saying:

"I am disappointed at the hypocrisy shown by this administration," Gibbons said in a prepared statement. "President Obama is coming to Las Vegas later this month for a political fundraiser, but he will not help the struggling families in Las Vegas and Nevada who are out of work because of his reckless comments."

"This is politics, pure and simple, President Obama stood for change, but all he has done is brought negative economic change to Nevada," Gibbons said.

Governor, let me point some stuff out to you. First, the businesses recieving bail out should not spend tax payer money to come to Las Vegas. They should  be finding more cost-efficient junkets. Second, you do not have the "right" to meet with the president, so if he turns you down, get over it.

Third, the political fundraiser is for a candidate. I doubt, seriously, that the candidate has recieved any bail out funds. Therefore, it is just a private person, party, or campaign that is coming to your state to raise money, giving you business. Stop complianing.

Fourth, Obama didn't cause people to lose their jobs. When you provide a luxury service, such as gambling, profits are going to fall during economic downturns. That is the way the world works. Just because Obama told a few companies that recieved federal bailouts not to fly their corporate jets to Las Vegas for their meetings does not mean people will lose their jobs.

I live in Las Vegas so I get to see how the economy has affected the city. I do think that the President has enough influence to where a comment like this could have a tremendous affect. He bashed an entire city. The Superbowl is one event. Millions of people are trying to survive in Las Vegas. He shed a negative light on the entire city. Perhaps he should be more specific about why companies shouldn't do business in Vegas. If it's about the blatant "sinning" that is promoted, say that. Oddly enough, it hasn't stopped him from coming here. He'll also be staying at Caesars Palace, home of the Pussycat Lounge and casino. For all of you who have never heard of it, scantily clad, dancing card dealers take over an entire pit every night. I wonder if he'll stop by to stimulate our economy...

I interpreted his remark as saying that people shouldn't go splurge money on expensive holidays when their companies are tanking, not that they specifically shouldn't go to Las Vegas.
