Roy Barnes with John Edwards
Now that Roy Barnes is in, I have a strong feeling he's going to pull a Jim Martin and win the primary based on his name (and base of megadonors) alone and then get clobbered in the general election, while candidates that are fresher and possibly stronger will get thrown to the sidelines as the political consultant class takes over.
Not endorsing or being necessarily critical of Roy Barnes as an overall political figure, but just noting the possible parallel. If we had a decent campaign finance system that allowed all the candidates to get their messages out there and not one tap into their base of elite donors, well, we might have a more fair game on our hands and possibly a better shot at the general. Oh well.
